Major types of cloth diapers

There are 8 major types of cloth diapers which are given below:

  • Flats
  • These diapers are the oldest. Your grandparents and parents must be familiar with these cloth diapers. These diapers are made up of a single layer fabric and a flat cloth diaper can be folded in lots of ways. The fabric of a flat diaper is usually made of cotton. A good thing about these diapers is they are the cheapest of all. Flat diapers must be used with a cover to make them waterproof. These diapers can be dried quickly. Flat cloth diapers are very popular and the first choice of the moms so sometimes it would be difficult to find flats.

  • Prefolds
  • In these diapers, rectangular pieces of cloth will be folded into three sections. The middle section of these diapers contains the most absorbent layer. These diapers can be fastened with snappy or pins. A tri-fold will be laid inside the cover. As the pre-fold diapers are not waterproof so with pre-fold cloth diapers you will be using a cover as well. When the baby is in the newborn stage, a pre-fold cloth diaper is the best choice. These cloth diapers are easily affordable.

    Prefold

  • Fitted cloth diapers
  • Fitted diapers are made up of natural fabrics such as bamboo, cotton, hemp, and fleece. This is the reason why fitted diapers are very absorbent. There is a problem with these diapers as well. Fitted cloth diapers are not waterproof. Unlike flats or pre-folds you don’t have to fold them. Fitted diapers are ready-made to fit the body of your baby. The cover will be used with fitted diapers.

    Fitted Diaper

A good thing about these diapers is they are easy to wash. They can be ready to use again even after getting off from the dryer. These diapers are similar to disposable diapers in shape. For fastening these diapers you will have to use Velcro or snaps. Fitted diapers are easy to use. These diapers are great for active toddlers and babies.

  • Contours cloth diapers
  • Contour diapers are actually a cross between fitted and pre-fold. They are already shaped well and pins or snappi will be required for closure. The price of these diapers will be on a higher side. Contours are easy to use and wash.

  • Hybrid cloth diapers
  • Hybrid diapers are cross between cloth diapers and disposable diapers. These diapers come up with a washable outer cover. You can use biodegradable insert inside the cover. Hybrid diapers are designed in such a way so that parents can easily diaper their babies. Such diapers contain a shell so plenty of absorbency layers can be inserted in it. You may be using cloth absorbency when you are at home while you might use disposable absorbency when you are traveling or away from home. A disadvantage of hybrid diapers is they lack contoured fits so there is a chance of leakage. The main advantage of these diapers is the level of flexibility they offer.

  • Pocket diapers
  • Pocket diapers are known as “Modern Cloth Diapers”. These diapers are baby and parents friendly. These diapers are waterproof so no additional cover is required. For closure, these diapers come up with Velcro or snap. These diapers are called cloth diapers because each diaper comes up with a pocket that is stuffed with an absorbent layer.

Pocket diapers usually contain liners made up of either suede cloth or fleece material. These fabrics help the baby to stay dry. Inserts used in the pocket diapers are made up of bamboo, hemp, or cotton. Suede cloth diapers are perfect for day and bamboo is ideal for the night. There is a disadvantage of pocket diapers as they are bulky and poor fit. These diapers can be easily fastened on the body and they don’t require a cover.

  • All in twos
  • These diapers are almost similar to pocket diapers. The main difference between the two is instead of stuffing into the pocket you might insert a snap inside the diaper. The working of these diapers is almost similar to the pre-fold inside a cover. You can easily clean the inserts. The exterior of these diapers is waterproof. You can use the outer cover multiple times. When you want to change the diaper you can get the soiled insert and use the cover again.

You can have 12 covers and 24 inserts. It will save you money. All in twos are easy to use and perfect for newborn babies.

  • All in one
  • Such cloth diapers are costly than the rest of the cloth diapers. The advantage of these diapers is you don’t have to buy any additional cover or stuffing. As the name suggests all in one, they are like disposable diapers. These diapers are very much popular among parents and babies. A huge advantage of all in one cloth diapers is they took a long time to dry completely. You might have to use a dryer to speed up the drying process. These cloth diapers are easy to use. They are called all in one because they are fitted with a waterproof shell and Velcro fastener. To allow extra absorbency all in one diaper contain pockets.
