What Is The Best Diaper Rash Cream

What Is The Best Diaper Rash Cream

Is Desitin the best diaper cream? I tried other brands on my baby diaper rash upon realizing Desitin Maximum Strength diaper cream (purple) isn't vegetarian as it uses fish oil.

I tried another gentle healing diaper cream with frequent diapers changes. Somehow, the rash did not recover so I used Desitin again for severe diaper rash for its effectiveness.

We've reviewed diaper cream so that you can choose whether you preferred to go on budget or popularity.

In this review, we’re going to take you through what we researched.

Aquaphor Healing Ointment - Moisturizing Skin Protectant for Dry Cracked Hands, Heels and Elbows, Use After Hand Washing - 14 Oz. Jar

Aquaphor can be described as the multipurpose healing ointment, besides diaper rashes. It can be used as a lip moisturizer, hand cream, foot cream for dry cracked feet, minor wound care. People even used it as a lip balm or during extremely dry weather.

It is also free from preservative and fragrance-free, specifically for sensitive skin and clinically proven to restore smooth, healthy skin. People with frequent exposure to water, hand soap, hand sanitizer, or extreme weather conditions can cause dry, cracked hands, and cuticles. Using Aquaphor Healing Ointment over at night as a hand cream for dry cracked hands to enhance healing and restore moisture.

This diaper rash uses petroleum jelly and acts like vaseline and fortified with mineral oils so that it is not greasy. A bottle lasts a long time even if you used it daily and sparingly every night.

Choosing Diaper Cream

By now you’ve probably ear-marked your favorite, but probably want a little more information – that’s why you’re still reading, right?

Well, you’re in luck…because we created an in-depth informational guide for finding diaper cream, so if you are still unsure or you have any final questions, this buyer's guide should do the trick

Zinc Oxide vs Petroleum Based Jelly

Many wondered about the difference between zinc oxide and petrolatum. Zinc Oxide is mildly toxic if ingested but effective as a proven antimicrobial treatment. Based on uspharmacist.com,

  • Zinc oxide (25%-40%) pastes and ointments are safe and effective for diaper rash, but in higher concentrations, they are difficult to remove from the baby’s skin due to their thick and adherent nature. Desitin Paste Maximum Strength used 40% zinc oxide while the rapid relief used 13%
  • Petrolatum (30%-100%) is the ideal diaper rash protectant. It is virtually non-allergenic, lacks an unpleasant odor, is easily removed from the skin, and is effective as a single ingredient without the potential for folliculitis or irritation. It is the single active ingredient (almost 100%) in Vaseline Petroleum Jelly and Vaseline Baby. Aquaphor uses mineral oil to reduce greasiness which must be wiped cleanly off to prevent residue.

Tested and Proven

The most important factor is whether the diaper cream works for you, regardless of the reviews read. I tried Desitin Maximum Strength and it does work wonder in severe diaper rash. I tried switching for mild rashes and had to switch back when the other brands failed.

Every skin is different though and maximum strength might not work for you too.

No or Little Side Effects

As we tend to overuse the cream, it is important there are no harmful chemicals or parabens. Do read our other posts on other uses of diaper cream.
